Preiļi Robotics Championship – 31 January 2026

We invite you to register for the “Preiļi Robotics Championship 2026”, which will take place on 31 January 2026 at Jānis Eglītis Preiļi State Gymnasium, Kooperatīvā iela 6, Preiļi.

Registration for the competition is open until 23 January, 23:59, at https://robotika.pvg.edu.lv/prc2026

We kindly ask everyone to register their robots in good time, so that the organisers can plan the order and timing of the competitions!

The event schedule, results tables, rules and the link to the live video stream during the event are available at: https://ieej.lv/prc2026

You can join the public WhatsApp group, intended for receiving prompt announcements both before the competition and on the day itself. Only the group administrators will be able to post information in the group: https://ieej.lv/prc2026info

The aim of the event is to promote children’s and young people’s interest in engineering and robotics, which is one of the fastest-growing fields in the world.

Arrival at the competition will be open from 9:00.
Participant registration will take place from 9:00 to 10:00.
The opening of the competition will be after 10:00.
Competitions will run from 10:30 to 18:00.
A more detailed competition schedule will be published after participant registration.

Championship events:

  • Linefollower or line followers. The robot’s task is to complete the given track, which is a black line on a white field, as quickly and as accurately as possible.
  • Mini Sumo robots present themselves as the smallest, but not the weakest, sumo robots.
  • Lego Sumo robots can surprise with their versatility.
  • iRobot Sumo features robot vacuum cleaners that have been creatively modified to fight in the ring.
  • Folkrace robots compete on an obstacle course that only the most agile and resourceful robots can complete.
  • In the drone competition, the pilot must be skilled enough to fly an obstacle course with a flying robot, a drone.
  • In the Freestyle category, everyone has the chance to demonstrate their robotics achievements to a wider audience with LEGO or free-structure solutions.
  • Antweight robot competition – an event in which the robots are controlled with a remote control.
  • In the VEX IQ competition, participants must solve the tasks prepared for the competition.
  • The WEDO competition is intended for pupils in the lower grades, whose robots compete in speed and strength.
  • FLL Chalenge – an event in which a LEGO robot is built and programmed to carry out the missions of the robot game.
  • Dragrace – the robot’s task is to travel the given straight track from the start to the finish line as quickly as possible and to stop at the end of the track without leaving the finish zone.
  • Relay event – in a team, 2 robots working together must deliver the given object from the start to the finish, following a line. NEW!
  • RC Mini sumo – mini sumo robots controlled with a remote control. NEW!

Attention, participants in the LEGO events (!!!):

  1. A participant can be registered as an operator for only one robot in one Lego sumo event;
  2. A Lego sumo robot is awarded a loss if, during the bout, a part weighing more than 5 g detaches from the robot and falls outside the ring; if the part remains on the ring, no loss is awarded;
  3. Turning a tyre inside out and/or placing it over another tyre already fitted on the wheel is prohibited;
  4. During a single Lego sumo match (between bouts, up to 2 wins), deliberately swapping parts of the existing structure or adding new parts to the robot’s structure is prohibited, except when a part has broken, in which case the spare part must be identical to the broken part;
  5. If a Lego sumo robot does not move within 10 seconds of the referee’s start signal, the robot is awarded a loss.

Please note the changes regarding robot dimensions:
(!) In the pupils’ Lego sumo up to 12 years group, robots can be up to 20x20x30 cm.
(!) In the pupils’ Lego sumo 13+ years and PRO groups, robots can be up to 15x15x20 cm.
*The robot may increase its size after the start, by no more than 10 cm beyond its initial dimensions.

In both age groups of pupils in Lego sumo, only certain official and licensed, but unmodified, LEGO parts included in the following robotics sets may be used to build robots: NXT 2.0, EV3, Spike or Inventor (https://www.pvg.edu.lv/robotika/2023/Documents/LEGO_parts.pdf). Parts that are not included in these sets must not be used. In the Lego sumo PRO group, however, there are no restrictions on the use of part sets; at the same time, the parts must be official and licensed LEGO parts and must not be modified (cut, glued, ground, etc.).

Participation in the event is free of charge; the number of team members and the participant’s age are subject to limits depending on the event in which the robot is entered. In several events, participants are divided into age and skill groups.

Photography and filming will take place during the event. By registering for and taking part in the event, participants consent to being photographed and filmed.

For their own comfort, participants are strongly advised to bring a change of footwear.

Classrooms will be available to participants where they can prepare their robots for the competition. If necessary, bring power extension leads with multiple sockets, as there may not be enough sockets in the classrooms. We will not be able to provide participants with extension leads.

Minisumo and iRobot sumo participants must bring gloves and, while the robot is not fighting in the ring, must fit safe covers over the blades, so that other competition participants are not injured!

In the Minisumo pupils’ group, robots will be started with a button; in the Minisumo PRO group, with a remote control.

The information will be updated, including on catering, after 6 January 2026.
