TSI robotics competition successfully completed
While on 14 December 2019 our grandmasters of robot building – Armands Upenieks and Māris Bečs fought at the “All Japan Robot Sumo” in Tokyo with Mega sumo and Mini sumo robots, the Preiļi Robotics Club team took part in the 2nd round of the Latvian Robotics Championship, held in Riga at the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI). At the competition we took part in the traditional events – Folkrace, Mini sumo, Lego sumo, iRobot sumo, line following and the less popular Line maze event.
At this competition the most successful were the builders of Lego line following robots, as they won 2 places on the podium – Andris Vereščinskis (grade 8) took 2nd place and Normunds Kokins (grade 9) 3rd place.
The amateur Vladimirs Birjukovs, competing as part of the PRK team, won 1st place in the Line maze event!
In free-structure line following, 3rd place was won by Artis Cveks (12.D), which was the best result among Latvian participants, and Lauris Šmeiksts took 5th place.
In free-structure Folkrace, 2nd place was won by Dinārs Kemzāns (10.D), and 5th place by Rinalds Pākste (12.D).
In the Mini sumo event the Lithuanian teams provided fierce competition, so our best performance was by Rinalds Pākste (12.D), who took 4th place.
After the sub-group fights in iRobot, the start of Edīte Meikulāne (12.D) was promising, as her robot beat all the competitors in its sub-group without losing a single fight, as was the start of Rinalds Pākste, who qualified from his sub-group for the semi-final fights. However, in the semi-final there was not enough luck to climb onto the podium of honour.
Thank you to our guest participants for their fighting spirit and for competing at the TSI robotics competition, and good luck in the competitions to come!
The next competition will be at our home – in Preiļi on 25 January!
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
