Several prizes were won at this year’s competition, but one is special! For the first time our team managed to win the iRobot sumo competition – Margarita Džeriņa won 1st place with the robot Veseris, and as a prize a new iRobot vacuum cleaner.
This year the members of our team managed to win all the places from 1st to 6th in the electronic Folkrace event, including 1st and 2nd place in the Folkrace event won by Matīss Buks together with Aldis Buks, and 3rd place by Edīte Meikulāne together with Armands Upenieks. 23 robots took part in the Folkrace event.
In the Mini sumo event 37 participants were divided into 4 sub-groups, with pupils, amateurs and professionals all placed together to compete. Only the 2 best robots from each sub-group qualified for the final fights. The robots of 5 of our club’s participants qualified for the final (Rinalds Pākste, Toms Teodors Vilcāns, Matīss Buks and Armands Upenieks, Eduards Lipiniks), along with 3 robots built by Robotex, and Aleksandrs, the winner of Latvian championships and other competitions. The final fights were thrilling, and the winner could not be predicted until the very last fight. In this fierce competition Matīss Buks together with Armands Upenieks won 2nd place in the Mini sumo event, and our team also took places 5th to 8th overall.
Thank you to everyone who helped to forge our shared success! Preiļi Robotics Club sessions take place at Jānis Eglītis Preiļi State Gymnasium. Thank you to the graduates of Preiļi State Gymnasium, now RTU students, Armands Upenieks and Linards Šmeiksts, for the work put into advising the pupils!
