PRK team members visit the “Giraffe360” factory

On 4 December 2025, on the way to the Robotex 2025 competition, the robotics team had the chance to visit and get to know the factory of the company “Giraffe360” in Riga. We were warmly welcomed by a graduate of the gymnasium, now the company’s senior programmer, Matīss Dambītis, the Head of Technology Einārs Deksnis, mechanical engineer Gundars Miezītis and senior embedded systems engineer Helvijs Adams.

In a short time the company’s Head of Technology Einārs Deksnis told us about the production process of the devices, data processing, device testing, programming, data analysis and, in general, how employees work in technology companies like this. Matīss, Gundars and Helvijs added to the story from the point of view of their own professions.

A few insights the pupils shared after visiting the factory:
Kārlis: I learned how Giraffe 360 cameras work, which can create a 3D model of a room. So that people do not get bored of doing one job in production, they swap duties. I also learned that the employees think about protecting the environment, because they go to work by bicycle.
Andrejs: It was cool to see the factory and watch how a camera is put together from parts. I learned that it takes 360° pictures by itself. Everything looked very modern.
Jānis: At the Giraffe360 factory I understood a lot of new things, especially about tidiness and work organisation. I really liked the calm, welcoming atmosphere. With my robotics knowledge I could understand things that are hardly taught anywhere else – they can only be understood by doing them yourself. Simple things work brilliantly there, everything is thought through and precise.

In brief about the company: “Giraffe360” is a technology company founded in Latvia that has developed an innovative product for the real estate sector – a unique, high-quality robotic photo camera with laser scanning capability for photographing interiors, as well as an online platform for virtual tours of properties. Giraffe360 allows real estate companies to get quality images and floor plans faster and more easily. Whereas until now interiors were measured mainly by hand, using small laser devices and software that processes the data afterwards, in the “Giraffe360” camera this process is fully automated.

Thank you to the “Giraffe360” team for the time they gave to our visit!

Juris Erts, head of the PRK team
