Preiļi robotics team does well at “Robotic Tournament 2026” in Rybnik, Poland

On 28 March 2026 in the Polish city of Rybnik, the 16th international robotics tournament “Robotic Tournament 2026” took place in the Zespoł Szkoł Technicznych building, which locals call the “Tygiel”.
The competition brought together 89 teams, 339 participants and 440 robots from six countries – Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Romania and Latvia). There were 14 categories, including various sumo events, LineFollower, LineFollower Turbo, RoboDragRace, RoboStrong, LEGO and Freestyle demonstrations.

At the Rybnik competition Latvia was represented by 5 participants of the PRK team of the Jānis Eglītis Preiļi State Gymnasium in the events LineFollower for LEGO, Lego sumo 15×15, Lego sumo 2kg and Minisumo.
In fierce competition with Poles and Italians, Andrejs Gžibovskis won 1st place and 3rd place in the LineFollower for LEGO event! This is yet another international victory for Andrejs.
For Jānis Bērzinieks this was the second international competition with his own Minisumo robot, and his result was very good. At first he took 1st place out of 8 robots in the group battles, but in the knockout tournament he had to concede to a Polish professional participant, who was also the overall winner of the competition in the end. Jānis Bērzinieks with his Minisumo robot finished in shared 5th place.
