Preiļi Robotics Club members take part in robotics competition in Romania as part of the Latvian team
From 3 to 5 November 2023, the international robotics competition “Robotchallenge 2023” took place in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, for the 14th time.
Thanks to the support of Robotu Skola, Mārtiņš Ulpe (12.B), a member of the Preiļi Robotics Club (PRK), had the opportunity to take part in the competition in Romania and compete with a Mini Sumo robot. One of the founders of the PRK, Armands Upenieks, also travelled to Bucharest as part of the Latvian team, and also competed with his robots in the Mini Sumo event.
Our team’s representatives in the Mini Sumo event missed the podium by a very small margin – they had to settle for 4th place. Although there is slight disappointment, the emotions and experience gained are unforgettable.
The Latvian team’s representatives managed to win 1st place in the Nano Sumo robot battles, 2nd place in the Freestyle event with the project “iRobot sumo” and 3rd place in the Micro Sumo event. These successes allowed the Latvian team to take 4th place in the overall standings of participating countries, behind the teams from Romania, Turkey and Thailand.
The competition in Bucharest was attended by 941 participants from 19 countries with 644 robots.
Thank you personally to Vitolds Bīriņš for giving Mārtiņš the opportunity to take part in the competition.
Juris Erts, work organiser of the robotics club
