Good results for the team of Preiļi robotics enthusiasts at the TSI robotics competition!

On 2 April 2016 the spring robotics tournament took place at the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) in Riga, and Preiļi was represented by a sizeable team – Armands Upenieks (PVĢ, RTU), Linards Šmeiksts (PVĢ, RTU), Matīss Buks (Preiļi 1st Primary School, grade 9), Matīss Dambītis (PVĢ, 2.D), Alens Šņepsts (Preiļi 1st Primary School, grade 9), Linda Madalāne (PVĢ, 2.B), Lauris Matisāns (PVĢ, 1.DK), Ilja Isajevs (PVĢ, 1.DK), Erlends Zagorskis (PVĢ, 1.DK), Eduards Lipiniks (PVĢ, 1.DK), Ilgmārs Rubīns (PVĢ, 1.DK), Aldis Buks (amateur)!

More than 160 robots from Latvia competed in all events together at the competition, and in fierce competition our team’s representatives managed to win several prize places!Armands Upenieks won 1st place in the “Mini Sumo” event, winning absolutely all his fights(!), and Matīss Buks managed to win prize places even in several events(!) – 2nd place in the “Folkrace” event, 3rd place in the “Mini Sumo” event and, conditionally (due to a lack of competition), 1st place in the “Maze” event!

It should be added that in the Mini Sumo event 6 participants qualified for the final, of whom 5 were our team’s representatives! The fight for 3rd place came down to Matīss Buks and Iļja Isajevs! Matīss’s robot fought more successfully, so Iļja finished in 4th place!

Thank you to all participants for preparing for the competition, thank you to the parents for the support, thank you to Armands and Linards for the work put into preparing the team!

The tournament was held in the following events:
“Mini Sumo” – a fight between two robots. The participants’ task is to prepare an autonomous robot capable of pushing the opponent’s robot out beyond the white line of the ring;
“Line following” – the robot, following the black line, has to cover the distance from start to finish in the shortest possible time;
“Maze” – the robot has to find the exit from the maze without getting lost in the shortest possible time and stop at the finish;
“Sorting” – within a set time the robot has to sort by colour 15 balls of different colours scattered around the playing field;
`Folkrace – robot rally – within a set time and in the right direction the robot has to drive as many laps of the track as possible. Up to 4 robots can take part on the track at the same time. The robot has to cover the distance independently, without remote control.

Good luck in the next competitions!
