Good results for the JEPVĢ Preiļi robotics team at the TSI “Winter Cup” robotics tournament!

On 17 December 2016 the robotics tournament “Winter Cup” took place at the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) in Riga, and Preiļi was represented by a sizeable team of pupils, graduates and parents’ representatives of the Jānis Eglītis Preiļi State Gymnasium – Armands Upenieks (PVĢ, RTU), Linards Šmeiksts (PVĢ, RTU), Solvita Ragauša (8.D), Valdis Mihailovs (8.D), Iļja Martinovs (10.D), Toms Vilcāns (10.D), Margarita Džeriņa (10.D), Aija Gžibovska (10.D), Jānis Ziemelis (10.D), Reinis Ķiberis (10.D), Matīss Buks (10.V), Ilja Isajevs (11.D), Eduards Lipiniks (11.D), Ilgmārs Rubīns (11.D), Lauris Matisāns (11.D), Linda Madelāne (12.B), Laura Buka (12.D), Matīss Dambītis (12.D), Aldis Buks (amateur, parents’ representative)!

More than 190 robots from Latvia competed in all events together, and in rather strong competition our team’s representatives managed to win several prize places! Since in this competition one participant could enter only one robot in an event, team members came to the rescue!

This year our line follower builders performed excellently – Linards Šmeiksts 1st place, Matīss Dambītis 2nd place and 3rd place in the line following event! Aija Gžibovska and Margarita Džeriņa helped forge 3rd place by running the robot built by Matīss Dambītis!

Linda Madelāne won 1st place in the “Mini Sumo” event! It must be said that Linda has managed to win 1st place in 2 competitions in a row!

Matīss Buks managed to win prize places even in several events(!) – 1st place and 2nd place in the “Folkrace” event, 3rd place in the “Mini Sumo” event and a commendation for taking part in the “Maze” event! Laura Buka ran a robot built by Matīss, which won 2nd place!

It should be added that in the Mini Sumo event 8 participants qualified for the final (2 from each of 4 sub-groups), of which 5 were our team’s representatives! Once again history repeats itself – the fight for 3rd place came down to Matīss Buks and Iļja! Matīss’s robot fought more successfully, so Iļja Isajevs finished in 4th place!

It was also the first competition debut for 8.D grade pupils Solvita Ragauša and Valdis Mihailovs, who had built and programmed a Lego Sumo robot! Only 1 fight decided whether they would fight in the final – this time luck was with the opponent. May the experience gained give strength for the next competitions.
Thank you to all participants for preparing for the competition, thank you to Armands and Linards for the work put into preparing the team, thank you to the parents’ representative Aldis Buks for the support!
On 28 January 2017 the “Preiļi Robotics Championship” is being organised in Preiļi – this means there will not be much time to rest, we must begin preparing for the Preiļi competition!
