Full podium won at the international robotics competition “Robotiada 2018” in Vilnius!
On 3 March 2018 in Vilnius the international robotics competition “Robotiada 2018” took place, the largest robotics competition in Lithuania. This year the venue hosted competitions in various events and practical workshops were organised for children. The format and scale of the competition are starting to resemble the Robotex competition in Tallinn. For now, though, it must be said that there were more participants’ robots in Tallinn. Noteworthy was that this year many children and lower-grade pupils took part in the event – this shows that the field of robotics in Lithuania is developing quite considerably.
Members of the Preiļi Robotics Club took part in the competition with 20 robots – the club was represented by Rinalds Pākste, Edīte Meikulāne, Matīss Buks, Toms Teodors Vilcāns, Eduards Lipiniks, Armands Upenieks and Aldis Buks. The team members took part in the Folkrace, MiniSumo, Line following and iRobot sumo events.
At the competition, as in the previous year, very good success was achieved in the Folkrace event. This year the Folkrace robots built by Matīss and Aldis Buks took all the podium places – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! In the fight for 3rd place an extra run was needed, because after the final run the robot of Toms and Armands showed the same result as the robot of Matīss and Aldis! As a result the robot of Toms and Armands finished in 4th place.
Very fierce fights took place in the Mini sumo event, and our robot was only a little short of winning a prize place.
The competition brought great experience and ideas for improving existing robots and building the next ones. Thank you to all the participants and advisers for the time and work put into preparing for the competition. Good luck in the coming competitions!
