Armands Upenieks represents Latvia at the RobotChallenge competition in Vienna!
The Preiļi Robotics Club consultant and PVĢ graduate Armands Upenieks, together with 17 other robot builders, on 12–13 March, representing Latvia and the team “Robotu skola”, went to the biggest robotics competition in Europe, RobotChallenge in Vienna (Austria), where more than 800 participants from 39 countries of the world took part (Mexico, Turkey, Romania and various other European countries).
In the Latvian team 9 participants took part in the Mini Sumo competition and 6 of them successfully won their fights in the sub-groups, advancing to the next round. Armands Upenieks took part in the competition with the Mini Sumo robot “Sumoboy” and successfully reached the round of 16. His team-mate Aleksandrs, with the robot “PoweRiga”, won the title of European champion in Mini Sumo, proving that he is one of the strongest in the world in robotics.
The Latvian team also competed with two robots in 3KG Sumo, including the PVĢ graduate Māris Bečs, who won second place with the robot “Joker”, while Einārs Deksnis with the robot “Blitz” finished in 4th place. We can rightly be proud of Latvian achievements in robotics, because in the last 4 years Latvians have each time stood on the podium of honour in the Mega Sumo event – this year a silver prize, in the previous 3 years gold.
The Robotu skola team also took part in the Freestyle category and won 2nd place, where they demonstrated their robotics achievements, offering the organisers the chance to get to know many iRobot Sumo robots and trying to convince them with a presentation that in future the RobotChallenge championship should also include a competition in the iRobot Sumo category (until now there was no such category; if there is one next year, it will certainly be thanks to the Latvians).
